I began playing with CT, the Dungeon Master (DM), CL, a halving rogue, and PT, a dwarven wizard. I was a half-elf ranger, and we started the game in a small village and were told to bring supplies to the frontier town of Neverwinter. We were to be paid 10 gp at the supply store where we needed to take a wagon. After travelling for a few days, we came to a small clearing on the road, with bushes to the side. I asked, out of character, if the bushes could possibly have anyone in them. I was told no. CL went to investigate the horses, and got a NATURAL TWENTY. No one saw him as he investigated. I rolled a 3 on perception, and then PT rolled a 4 on stealth walking to the horses.
Needless to say, PT and CL were destroyed, being first-level characters attacked up close by four goblins. PT died, and CL was unconscious at 1 HP. I kept rolling misses on my attack rolls because the goblins had the same AC as I did, 15. The thing is, the goblins were missing a lot too. I ended up slaying three single-handedly (PT and CL killed one).
Next, we enter the city of Neverwinter.
